Immediate Health Freedom Action Needed
In Iowa and Colorado
January 30, 2012
OPPOSE Iowa: Iowa House Bill 507 and Senate Bill 3022, both monopolistic Naturopathic Physician licensing bills, attempt to criminalize all persons practicing natural health unless they have a medical naturopathic doctor license! The bills were introduced on January 12, 2012 and were heard and passed in theState Government Subcommittees of the Senate and the House January 25 and 26 by a 2-1 vote and are on the way to the full State Government Committees in both the Senate and the House No amendments have been attached yet to correct and properly exempt out unlicensed traditional naturopaths or complementary and alternative health care practitioners.
What you can do : Call your personal Senate and House Representatives and the State Government Committee Members, listed below, and Oppose H.S.B. 507 / S.S.B. 3022. Contact legislators by phone, email, or personal letter. Let them know you oppose the bill. Also, keep in touch to come to the future hearing.
What the Bill Does:
H.S.B. 507 / S.S.B. 3022 would criminalize practicing anything within the proposed definition of “naturopathic medicine”, regardless of whether it poses a risk of harm to the public. The definition is so broad that it includes many natural therapies such as “…hydrotherapy, topical medicines, foods, food extracts, vitamins, amino acids, minerals, enzymes, dietary supplements, …, homeopathic remedies and plant substances…”. The bill contains an inadequate exemption for unlicensed persons and is misleading to many. Click here to see the language of HSB 507 | Click here to see the language of SSB 3022.
H.S.B. 507 / S.S.B. 3022 w ould criminalize and medicalize the common terms “naturopathy” and “naturopath” and take them out of the public domain and relegate them to a small special group that obtained a special education. Thousands of citizens use the term “naturopath” and practice varying forms of “naturopathic health care” and “naturopathic services” including grandmothers providing “chicken soup” to others. “Naturopathy”, “naturopathic health care” and “naturopathic services” are not the same as “naturopathic medicine” and should not require medical education.
Come to a Future Hearing:
Where and When the Bill will be heard: H.S.B. 507 / S.S.B. 3022 are not yet on the agenda of the State Government Committees for public hearings but that could happen soon.
